ALEXA SMITH

Alexa Smith (she/her) is Associate Artistic Director and Director of Cultural Transformation at The Public Theater. She serves as EDI Director for the Tony Award-Winning HELL’S KITCHEN a new musical from Alicia Keys and is a cultural consultant for Broadway and Off-Broadway shows.

She has created, consulted, and produced at numerous arts organizations including The Metropolitan Opera, The League of American Orchestras, WQXR, The Sphinx Organization, New York City Opera, The Dallas Symphony, Lincoln Center for The Performing Arts, among others.

She was previously Associate Vice President for Strategic Innovation and Special Initiatives at Manhattan School of Music. During her tenure there, Smith led the school's Cultural Inclusion Initiative. She served as Dean of Performance and Production Operations overseeing the School’s nearly 800 performances a year.

She received the Sphinx Venture Fund Award in 2021 for the Duncan Williams Voice Competition in partnership with Manhattan School of Music. In 2024 she received the Game Changer Award from the Denyce Graces Foundation for service in the arts.

She is also a regular panelist on the Metropolitan Opera Quiz Show,a special correspondent for Metropolitan Opera Radio, and the new host of WQXR’s Young Arts Showcase.

She holds degrees in voice from Roosevelt University and Manhattan School of Music and an MBA from Boston University. In 2024 she received the Alumni Dean’s Award from Chicago College of Performing Arts.
